[About the Car] The 99T was a car developed by Lotus for the 1987 Formula 1 series. It featured a 1.5-liter turbo engine, such as a V6, and a computer- and hydraulically controlled active suspension. The concept of active suspension, which uses sensors to detect road irregularities and actively adjusts the suspension to maintain optimal alignment with the road, had a major impact on subsequent car development. Team Lotus fielded two drivers in the Lotus 99T during the 1987 season: Satoru Nakajima, the first Japanese regular F1 driver, and Ayrton Senna. In the fourth race of the season, the Monaco Grand Prix, Senna won, achieving a first-ever victory in Monaco for both Senna and engine supplier Honda.
